Sharing Rewards: Establishing Employee Ownership

Employee ownership has been around for many years with names like John Lewis and Scott Barder and more recent converts like Riverford Organics and Aardman Animations have all brought to life their version of shared capitalism or a ‘third way’.

The sector has seen real growth in recent years driven by a resurgence of values-led entrepreneurs, and can play a key role in ‘build back better’. The sector received a boost with the introduction of the 2014 finance act, which removed the disincentive for owners to sell their businesses into the ‘trust’ of their employees. The key data indicates employee owned businesses enjoy greater success, higher employee satisfaction and retention, greater productivity and resilience, and improved customer loyalty.

This session aims to explore the range of options open to those seeking to start or convert their business into employee ownership.
